Tribute from Hope Oludayo "Small Mama Nosa"

Mummy, I thought long and hard and could not find the right words to describe your kindness, friendliness, gentleness, selflessness, humility, boldness, sternness, and unbiasedness, the list is endless. There are people with some of these attributes, but few with this combination. Mummy, you loved and cared for us while going out daily to ensure our immediate needs were met and securing a better future for us and all around you. Your kindness knew no boundaries. It was immeasurable. You wanted everyone to succeed. No one was permitted to fail under your watch. I remember Cotonou journeys; those memories will remain with me forever. Mummy you were understanding, you listened, I remember how you woke me up at night when you needed to speak with me to ensure the message sank in my head and to ensure I don’t miss it in life, thank you Mummy. Your stern personality instilled discipline in me. I remember how I enjoyed listening to your chats (daddy used to call it rapping). I enjoyed growing up under your watch mummy. You taught me how to be comfortable in my skin because you were extremely comfortable in your skin, you taught me how to be confident, to dream big, and to stand for the truth. You taught me how to be a wife, a Mother, how to be industrious, you never believed in people depending on others, hence you thought everyone in your circle how to fish. Thank you Mummy. Mummy, I feel like I didn’t thank you enough, I didn’t tell you everything I would have loved to say, neither did I do half as much as I feel you deserved. I don’t think I would’ve ever been able to say or do all the things because you were beyond ordinary. I miss you mummy, i miss your calls, the missed calls 😊, I miss you talking to your Yoruba grandchildren, i miss you saying “Buky kpele” and Buky responding “grandma kpele”. I can’t forget your prayers; God keep me to escort my children to the place where they will not be scared. Mummy you waited until that prayer was answered. Until the last day, you were still making decisions that benefited others instead of yourself. I remember my early days in Europe when I was finding my bearings mummy said come back home my daughter, you never pressurised us into making wrong decisions. You bought me my first phone in Europe sent through Netete. Mummy, I don’t know how to let you go, and I don’t want to learn it either. Mummy please keep coming in my dreams looking all beautiful and radiant, don’t stop. It serves as a consolation and as a reminder that you are in a better place where there is no pain, a place that befits you, a place where only angels reside. Sleep Well Mummy, Thank you my Mama, I say THANK YOU MY GREAT MOTHER, IYENOGIE.

Tribute from Seyi Oludayo

I am privileged and grateful to God I had you as my mother in law. You were a precious gift from God. You were extremely kind to me and my household, you touched our hearts in so many ways. You welcomed me into the family with open arms, endlessly showering us with gifts and love. Always calling to check on how we are doing, asking after my family, my dad. Whenever I came to Benin, you treated me so well, I felt like royalty. Even during your struggles, you never changed for one’s, you were always smiling while fighting boldly and gallantly. Mama, you were strong.

Thank you for the great job you did raising the woman that i love, my wife and the mother of my children. All of us: your children, your Buky Sola and Ayo will miss you dearly. We will always love you mummy.

Sleep well Mummy,
Rest on in the Lords Bossom.

Tribute from Bukola Oludayo

I can’t believe my grandma is gone. I can’t believe i’ll never receive a call from her again asking me how school was and how she liked my hair. I remember when she’d call me and my siblings “omo yoruba” whenever we’d greet her. Everytime she called she asked when we’d meet her in Nigeria, and it’s hard to believe it will never happen. I remember when she’d smile at me. A genuine and heartfelt smile. I pray that she is in a place of smiles and laughter, Amen. I love you grandma.
